This special book of holidays is a beloved family favorite of my girls. They were read this book as young children and each now have a copy to read to my grandkids. I have started the tradition of floating birthday cakes down the "river" during the summer when the Lakes come to visit. After trial and error I have discovered that wood works better than Styrofoam.
I hot glue Hostess Cupcakes to the wood and buy those ''trick" candles that are hard to blow out. Trace glues other interesting objects to each little boat so that the kinder can readily identify their own boat. We make one for each grandchild so we can enjoy a real flotilla. This activity is enjoyed by young and old alike!! After the boats come to the end of their run, we bring a rake so we can remove them from the water and not litter.

I just got out my A Time To Keep and read it to Emma. She will love this tradition this summer. I can't wait to make May Baskets with her.
i love that tradition too. The only time i participated in it however, the cupcakes tipped over, and it was kindof a bust. I won't say who was in charge of the event. . .
Can you believe I haven't actually been to the float. Was I napping?
Jamie...that's hilarious. The girls and I read mine frequently. I have two copies. One from when I was little that Sara tried to write her name in to claim as her own....very tattered and loved. I think our Barbies used it as decorative wallpaper in their "houses". Anywho the girls and I picked a month to do this year. We chose May. Let's see if I can pull it together. I'll need to get a May-pole. Hey...just like the Festivus for the rest of us pole!
