This special book of holidays is a beloved family favorite of my girls. They were read this book as young children and each now have a copy to read to my grandkids. I have started the tradition of floating birthday cakes down the "river" during the summer when the Lakes come to visit. After trial and error I have discovered that wood works better than Styrofoam.
I hot glue Hostess Cupcakes to the wood and buy those ''trick" candles that are hard to blow out. Trace glues other interesting objects to each little boat so that the kinder can readily identify their own boat. We make one for each grandchild so we can enjoy a real flotilla. This activity is enjoyed by young and old alike!! After the boats come to the end of their run, we bring a rake so we can remove them from the water and not litter.
