SEEM TO HAVE ONE.

NOVEMBER...Africa, Jordan, Israel

We traveled to Ethiopia and had a delightful time falling in love with the people.  We drove south from Addis Ababa to Haleku and Kersa, where we met with friends working with the Village of Hope.  We took them sports equipment and clothing.

In Addis, we spent our time with Jason Burton and the twenty street boys he is providing a home for called, Yehiwot Raey.  I became particularly bonded to Tariku, who I sat with when we took all the boys out for pizza.  Jason has been living in Addis and providing for the boys for 5 years.  He is from Portland, Oregon and is 25.

In this village, the windmill is so valuable.  I never saw another one the rest of the trip.  For three months the wind doesn't blow so then they have to walk 3 miles to get water.

The men in the green shirts belong to the 'foresight fathers' program, which is a wonderful advantage for them and their families.  They are learning how to grow gardens and have even planted fruit trees in their village, which many thought couldn't be done because of the soil conditions.

The little woman in the pink dress is a widow and the foresight fathers are building her a new home.  The woman in the top picture became an instant friend when I took a picture of her and then immediately showed it to her.  She giggled and touched her hair/scarf, indicating that she thought she looked awful.  A universal gesture in any language!

The green soccer uniforms were donated by a young girl from Mendon, and the kids were so excited to receive them.

We stayed at the Marriott whenever possible!  It wasn't possible in Ethiopia but the two hotels there were quite nice too.

Some of the boys went to church with us in Addis.  The LDS church has a lovely compound, with a tennis court even.

Okay, I saw some grass in Ethiopia.  This place, where we stopped for lunch and at the LDS compound.

We took a bus from Jordan into Israel to visit Jerusalem and soldiers with guns were a common sight.  Yes, this WAS during the time that Hamas was firing rockets from Gaza!

Our guide in Petra, Jordan.  All the Jordanian men were such hunks!

In the Siq, walking toward the Treasury

We are still in the Siq...it is a long walk to Petra with wondrous sights, sounds and people.

Standing in front of the Treasury

Petra is so much more than the Treasury and the Monastery.

One of the Indiana Jones movies was filmed coming down the Siq, with the Treasury just beginning to show in the background.

I could support this look for Trace.
