We celebrated our anniversary today. This day always causes me to reflect on the many reasons why I love my husband. I will share only one because it is so significant in many areas of our relationship. It is this: Trace has mastered the art of pleasing me. When he is at work in his home office and I stick my head in the door to ask him to do a task in the yard at some point in the day, he immediately stops what he is doing, goes outside and completes the task. As in RIGHT THEN. I'll say: I was thinking...that the grands need a playhouse, a play area, a treehouse. Done. Done. Done. The two biggest "I was thinking" led him to move the small animal shed to a different location, and to move THE VOLLEY BALL COURT. Yup. That required borrowing a small back hoe to relocate all the sand. Not a word of complaint. Not one. Never does he say "No." He just does it. I know this is a huge blessing because I observe men who won't even mow the lawn. I am blessed beyond measure for the measure of a man that he is. I never forget that love is a verb.
I made a scrapbook about us. It takes me on a hairstyle and fashion journey as much as anything! It has many tags in it and the following pictures are from that book.

I gave this photo to Trace on our 35th anniversary. I wrote 35 memories of him on velum and framed it over a picture of us on our anniversary that year.

August 14, 1970
Documented, imitated, derided, psychoanalyzed, and frequently condemned in its own time, the wedding day of Trace and Mary Ann seemed to be the most confusing and misunderstood event of the decade. It put the town of Rupert on its ear.
People were talking about...the groom's apparel on the wedding day; a sport coat with a tie that was five inches from the belt. Whatever. Wedding breakfast at the Bluebird.
People were talking about...white lipstick for the bride. The wiglet that brought gasps from the crowd. Wearing her mother's wedding dress and a veil of net illusion before changing into her mini-dress after the wedding in the Logan Temple.
People were talking about...driving to Rupert from Logan in a 1965 Ford Galaxy with no air conditioning on a hot August day. Valet parking in the bean field. Fabulous trousseau purchased with the $1000 wedding allowance. Very frugal bride.
People were talking about...the cake; triple-tiered, decorated with lavender orchids and trimmed in gold. Displayed on a round table covered in white lace over lavender satin and illuminated from underneath. The refreshments; grape punch, rolled sandwiches, fruit kabobs, butternut cookies and rosettes. Did the bride loose touch? Didn't she know that she would be just as married if she only served cake?
People were talking about the bridesmaids in matching lavender crepe, fashioned with leg o' mutton sleeves, not to be confused with leg o' lamb sleeves.
People were surprised over...the flower girl, Cathy Ellsworth, in her floor-length empire gown in green with white lace bodice trim, full length sleeves and lavender flowers and ribbon accents. She turned on the hydrant and soaked the guests, pounded on the piano while Helen was performing, flipped her flower basket over her head in the receiving line, scattering fresh flowers everywhere. And finally was found floating wedding napkins in the bathtub after her mother had gone off without her.
People were wondering why...the bride and groom were upstairs changing while the groom's sister was with them talking about the inevitability of divorce. Bill Farnsworth hiding the luggage and putting the bride in tears. The bride and groom not talking on the way to the lovely hotel in Burley.
People couldn't believe...why the bride would lay on the floor of the car the next morning when they went home to open their gifts just because Gary and Anna stood in the window and seemed to be smiling too much. The six day honeymoon to Jackson Hole that only lasted three because there wasn't ANYTHING to do.
People are relieved...that even though the wedding movie continues to bring tears of laughter to the eyes of friends and family alike, the bride and groom are completely happy with the events of their special moment in time and wouldn't change any detail.

Seriously, you guys look the same as you did when you got married!!!
Gosh I actually think as we get older we look like we did when we were younger!!
We just celebrated our 36th.. Isn't it great to still love the same guy after all these years?
Seems we are a minority in the world today:0
Happy Anniversary.
Fondly, B.
That was awesome! Happy Anniversay! You had me all teary eyed reading the first part of that. I liked the nod to lawn mowing. Should you read this tomorrow at dinner? Anyway, I'm sitting down here after midnight, looking at your pictures with tears in my eyes and Kenny Rogers' Through The Years in My Head when the tone of that post did a 180 and had me laughing so hard. Man! Who can't think of ANYTHING to do on their honeymoon and comes back earlier?!! And how did parents like that get a daughter like me!! Or like I used to be before I hd 5 kids. Sorry TMI. Are you going to delete this comment now? Can't wait to see you tomorrow and celebrate over some delicious spring rolls and tom ka gai soup. I hope I can remember to bring Dad's Father's Day present that I've forgotten to give him the last 7 times I've seen him. This was long. Sorry. Perhaps I should have sent you an e-mail instead.
I remember it all. Shocking wasn't it!!!! Congrats on 38. We hit 40 next week. I didn't remember that you were 2 years behind. I was thinking 1. Remember the time we came to Provo to visit and Jim forgot to load the clothes that I had on the hangers. You (skinny minnie) were so kind to offer to lend me some of yours. On my best day, I could never have fit into your stuff, but I had just had James a month before and it just wasn't going to happen. I think I wore the same stuff for 2 days. Good times....Love you both....
What a hunk Trac was. He reminds me of that sexy Jack Black in "Nacho Libre" with the mustache. And you girl there just aren't the words, thanks for entertainment. Favorite hair style hands down was the tight perm! Happy Anniversary to the model couple. We're in SLC for a wedding. Just how far are you guys from here? I'm way tempted to drive up and say hi on sunday. Are you in town or doing something fun for your anniversary?
Sidney if you don't drive up I will never forgive you. I'll fix dinner, anyone/anyone?
Happy Anniversary to Barbara and Joyce!!
What can I say about you and dad? I could talk about your friendship with one another, the adventures you take together, or the support and individuality you allow yourselves to have. But my most favorite is how affectionate dad is with you. Always kissing and sometimes fondeling andthe flowers and poetic cards he leaves you for no reason. I will always remember the flowers.
Loved the perm and the purple pants!
That is the sweetest (and funniest) post. I loved it. Happy anniversary a few days late! You two are a model of happiness for all to follow. I too am blessed with a man who will do anything I ask- and usually right when I ask too. We are lucky girls
Happy anniversary! I loved seeing your pictures through the years and the wedding day review at the end (wasn't that in the Griffin histories one year?) I remember your wedding day well and you are spot on with the details! You two get better with age.
Oops, I didn't know I was signed in as vfr. It's really ygr.
hysterical!
Love the shots through the years. I thought of the two of you when Dixieland Delight came on the radio driving through the Blue Mts. You and dad always had a way of keeping things exciting and adventursome between you and with us girls. I love you guys!
Happy belated anniversary Annie! I loved the pics and had no idea that your wedding was such an event. Trace is the man to do your bidding and that definitely keeps a girl happy.
